Welcome to Faces in TheNight

Welcome to New York, home of the city that never sleeps. That couldn’t be more true. Recently, the Angels were shot down from Heaven and their wings were revoked by the Reapers. The race was disbanded and now the balance of power is off in the worst way possible. The Demon’s aren’t hesitant in the least bit to take advantage of this time before balance is somehow restored. Humans fight to be heard while Witches fear to be seen. Shape shifters are the outcasts of this world, but refuse to be put down. Werewolves claw to be at the top of the food chain, but Vampires are always plotting and scheming to be superior. Valyrian is a bustling realm of Elves and Dragons that fight their own war.

Welcome to a world where nightmares come to life. The day time isn't all that safe either. Who do you align with? Where do you stand in this crazy life? Or will you be just another face in the night?

New growth cannot exist without first the destruction of the old

Mason + Eastern Standard Time + He/Him

Finnigan let out a sigh of relief and content. The type that's common after eating a delicious and enjoyable meal. Which was exactly what Finn had just finished doing. The waiter took his plate, leaving the witch alone to his own devices. He casually flicked his wrist up to check the time. 21:18. I still have time.
The witch sat by himself at the table, the restaurant not quite as busy any longer. He was happy to enjoy his own company, but couldn't help himself from people watching. When they first met, Finn, the vampire, had mentioned that this establishment was run by his own kind. They seemed to be doing fine as a business, though the witch noticed that one of the patrons couldn't quite keep her eyes to herself. She was on guard, not quite jumpy as she seemed she didn't want to reveal her trepidation to her date, but was constantly watching the waiters and staff members, scared they might attack her at any given moment.

Without judgment, Finn turned his gaze back to his own empty table. He was actually going to come with one of his friends, but she had to cancel on him last minute with family issues, and so the witch came by himself. Though now that he thought about it, he'd imagine she might act in the same manner.

It wasn't a total waste, however. Finnigan was actually quite happy to see his vampire friend again. He chuckled to himself softly, amused at how unexpected their relation turned out to be; especially considering their start. Still, he was happy for the ultimate outcome and relaxed in his seat.
It had been too long since the witch got a good vacation.

Checking his watch again, Finnigan rose from the chair and made his way out of the restaurant towards the main lobby. When the vampire said he'd give Finn the VIP treatment of the place, he was not kidding. It was already his second night, and he had to admit not only how grateful he was, but how impressed their operation ran.
'Meet me in the lobby at nine-thirty and we'll grab the VIP drink I promised.'

The heels of the Englishman clicked against the polished floor as he made his way to the lobby. A small but genuine smile on his face as he strolled.

The past few months had been strangely troublesome for Finn. After all these years of hiding from the pain, it had finally caught up with him. There were only so many centuries that you could go without remembering all the horrific things you did in your early days as a vampire. By all accounts, he had done far worse things in recent centuries but this was back when he was still losing his humanity. He still felt remorse back then.

Keeping himself busy with business engagements had helped for the most part. After finding himself trying to find the bottom of the bottle for several weeks in a row, he had come to the simple conclusion that trying to get drunk on something that was impossible to get drunk from was perhaps a poorly thought out plan. So it was back to the good old trying to climb the vampire social ladder.

As it so happened, tonight was one of the few nights of indulgence that he had rationed for himself. Somewhere in the middle of all that self-loathing, he had found a new friend. Whilst Seb his best to lift Finn’s spirits, Finn felt that playing with someone new for a bit might distract him more than usual. It had been so long since he had shown the world to someone new.

He had kept his distance for the time being but now it was time for him to show his witch friend how it all works. How it all really worked. Waiting in the lobby for the witch, Finn sat on fancy looking seat opposite the front desk. He could feel the sneaky gaze of the front desk staff; their curiosity as to why a board member was sat in the front lobby no doubt peaking. And luckily for them, they were about to see why.

The workings of the universe were far beyond the knowledge of Finnigan. Why things happened the way they did; who they happened to; it was all lost on him. Truth of the matter was that it didn't really matter to Finn. He could ponder all he wanted, but without an answer to be found, what was the point? It was going to unfold the way it was going to unfold. But still, it was curious to think for a moment or two. He wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for Finn, his vampire friend. Had the witch had actually fallen asleep that night, or choose a different pub, or even simply decided not to talk to the vampire the way he had, he'd be somewhere completely different. But he wasn't. He was here, in the lobby.

"Finn!" The witch beamed, strolling over with a proud purpose as he offered out his hand to shake. "I was beginning to think you were avoiding me," he teased, chuckling at his own joke. Finn had already done more than he needed to for the witch, and he was more than grateful for the vampires hospitality.

"This is a fantastic operation you've got going on here mate. I'd imagine there's a stiff amount of competition out here for vineyards, but this looks top of the line."

Finnigan would catch up later with his vampire friend, but he wanted to compliment him on his business first. It seemed... well, almost perfect really. Good staff, clean area, fantastic products. It made the witch wonder why Finn seemed stressed with a business that seemed to run so smoothly. To be fair though, what did the witch really know? Both about business and Finn's personal problems. Well, perhaps tonight the witch could help out with that.

Rising to his feet, he smiled and turned to meet his guest. He felt the eyes of his desk staff follow his gaze towards the witch as he approached and Finn could only wonder what kind of questions were buzzing around in their heads. Who was this man? What does he do? How does he know one of the bosses? Is he a vampire too? What kind of business are they up to?

It amused him to wonder about the trivial thoughts that they would try and conjure up to make their evening shift a little bit more enjoyable. ”Finn!” he loudly greeted, glancing at the desk staff to see the confusion on their faces. He also did little things to make his everlasting life a little bit more fun. And he could see on their faces that he had been successful.

Returning his attention to his guest, he chuckled at his joke and nodded in appreciation of the compliment. ”There is indeed quite a bit of competition. We are doing quite well on the vineyard front. And when we don’t, sometimes the other companies decide to quit whilst they are ahead. We had one company try to even sabotage our crops. They disappeared completely.”

Finn felt like he could talk frankly with the witch. It was no secret what they all were and Finn certainly didn’t hide it. ”Now that you’ve enjoyed the public side of it, how about I show you the behind the scenes?” Motioning to a door near the desk that had “STAFF” written across it, he led the way, knowing full well that not many people got this guided tour and lived to tell the tale.

Finnigan glanced over as he saw his vampire friend shooting a coy look at his employees, and the witch couldn't help but do the same, adding to the slightly confused shock on their faces. It was nice to see the vampire so happy, or at least so comfortable. The witch just wanted to add to that, so he played along as he shook his hand and watched as his employees snuck glances and whispered among each other.

He nodded along with the vampire, understanding the business was cutthroat, even for mortals. Business with supernaturals could be a whole lot worse, he imagined. Still, how could he not want to see what this place had in store? Finn was offering a personal tour into his own baby. The vampire was interesting enough, but this could really give him a look into how the vampire works.

"Yeah, absolutely!" He grinned, rubbing his hands together briefly to indicate his excitement before he let them dropped. He glanced at the STAFF sign and wonder how many other guests got to see the inner workings of such a beautiful estate.
"Lead the way, mate!" he smiled, standing slightly behind his vampire friend to follow.

With a wicked smile, he nodded and set off for the door, opening and then keeping it open for his guest to pass through. Once he had gone through, the door shut behind them and the path in front was clear to them. A short hallway that led to a metal staircase. What made the staircase look out of place was that the stairs were clearly placed on top of a drop and would be the first rough looking thing Finn would have seen over the last few days.

Stepping down the stairs, a long hallway with overhead bulbs went on for miles, with paths straying off every now and then. ”The grounds are actually two worlds. One on top of the other. These tunnels were the original business. Back when the humans had their prohibition, we ran the supplies through these tunnels, like many others did back then. When that ended, the business was able to move to the surface.”

”It made sense to run this kind of business. First of all, we live in a world where we drink all the time. Secondly, back then, the business was cutthroat and let’s just say that appealed to us. These days, the tunnels are where we continue our darker ventures. We don’t need to follow the human law but it helps the business if we keep it out of sight, out of mind.”

”The tunnels come in use with some of the less legal jobs. They go pretty far so pickups can be at either end. Sometimes our guests need items that can’t be seen coming through the back door or even the delivery door. So we have them brought in this way, to keep it discreet. Our guests often return as a result of our discrete nature.”

New growth cannot exist without first the destruction of the old

The metal stairs gave a small groan indicating their well worn time and usage. It was amazing to see the stark difference between the bright, regal looking upstairs and it's dark underbelly. But its history made sense. These tunnels looked like they needed to exist for the business, so, despite being bare-boned, the witch couldn't help but look around as the two Finn's made their way throughout them. There must have been so much history these walls have seen. So many faces and scenes, some gruesome, some not. Finnigan absentmindedly ran his hand along the bare wall, letting it drag across as he imagined the energy and pace these tunnels might once have had.

Curiosity partly peaked in Finn as the vampire addressed some of their... 'darker ventures'. He thought about asking more about it but held his tongue. He was already lucky to be here with Finn. He didn't want to press that luck. Instead, his inquiries went elsewhere. Besides, he could glean what the vampire meant.

"Do the humans often uses these less legal options?" It wasn't a question of judgment or piousness. The witch could imagine the ample amount of uses during prohibition, though now the tunnels might not be used exactly for alcohol.
"It seems like a pretty interact tunnel system," he added glancing around at the various paths that split and frayed from the one the pair was one.

He rubbed the back of his head, not sure if he was explaining himself properly. "Are these tunnels worth the effort, I suppose is what I'm trying to say," he chuckled to himself. "It seems like a big system to man and keep in check."

Finn figured that his tour would interest his guest at the very least as he had pretty much gotten the tour down to a perfect pitch now. Today he got to be a bit more casual about it but there had been times he had escorted large groups of corporate types around the tunnel to show off the business that could be done here. Everyone wanted their product to be the one in the tunnels but only those who they considered got to see it.

”Strictly speaking, using the tunnels is not illegal. We’ve got them registered on blueprints, planning permissions, all the required paperwork really. Yes, the products that travel the long distances could be less than legal however when it comes to the tunnels, there’s no reason not to have them. Just like Disney World. That place has more underground than above ground!”

”I would say it’s worth keeping around. After all, they’re used regularly so even without the security teams patrolling, someone comes through often enough that anything strange would be reported in good time. Not to mention that when the product comes through, it is requested. We never keep it on site until the intended time to use it so there’s a strict time limit in place that covers that angle too.”

”We’re likely to bump into a security team at some point. I’ve forgotten to mention this before and I’ve had guests thinking that they’re seeing or hearing ghosts down here. You’d have thought in a world where every supernatural species is known about, that people would stop believing in ghosts. Is the supernatural world so boring that you have to make up a new species to entertain?!”

The shoes of the two men clicked faintly as they walked further down into the network of outstretched tunnels. The witch didn't suspect the tunnels themselves were illegal; it would seem like too unnecessary a complication to the business should anyone of authority find out. It was what went through the tunnels, as Finn has expressed, that was not kosher with the law. It seemed that his friend had a good head on his shoulders to keep it going all this time. And who was Finn to question? He laughed at himself mentally. The witch didn't even know the first thing about business.

He nodded. It seemed smart to keep any highly sought after items off-site. It would create too much of a target on the winery and put too much risk on the establishment and its guest. At least this way, it kept them more out of harm's way. It was a big network of tunnels, however. The witch was surprised he had yet to see anyone down here at all. He would have thought that they'd of seen some form of security by now. Like he said earlier, it seemed like a big system to man.

"I don't blame 'em," he replied back in response to the ghosts. "With so much out there, it only seems to make sense that they'd exist. I know I used to believe in them," he chuckled, mostly out of embarrassment. Finn would refrain from telling his vampire friend that it was mostly in search of his father's ghost. Better to keep that one to himself and let the vampire believe it was when Finn was a child or something.

But now the Finn mentioned it, it had seemed a bit quiet down here. The witch glanced around. No teams of security crisscrossing through the halls, no sound of conversations between guards. Nothing. Just the two Finns. "I'm surprised we haven't bumped into them yet, to be honest."

The pair had been walking for some time now and Finn’s statement rung a bit too true. It WAS strange that they had not seen anyone yet. The tunnels were often quite busy, at the very least with deliveries being run up and down. Today was no different and he could name seven guests that he knew would be ordering today. None of whom were small time buyers.

”You raise a good point” Finn responded, a clear tone of concern to his words. Pulling a 1911 from under his jacket at waist height, he paused in the tunnel and looked around. ”The capital of our world is where?” he shouted loudly, listening to the echo of his words as they pinged down the tunnels. No voices came back.

”Ok, you’re right. This is too quiet. We need to head back, right now.” Finn turned to head back the way they came and came face to face with a large wolf. How it had snuck up on them was beyond him. It looked ravaged and much skinnier than any wolf he had ever seen before. Almost like it was starved and full of all sorts of nasty diseases. It certainly didn’t belong down here.

Finn didn’t hesitate in firing the full chamber into the wolf before him, approaching it as he did so. As expected, it yelped and fled down the tunnel. Hopefully, it would turn off rather than go the way they needed to. ”I think it’s time we moved” he instructed, turning to face Finn before falling silent. His eyes were past Finn. He could only see the wolves that filled the tunnel behind him.

A light air of concern drifted across Finn's face as the vampire confirmed his suspicions as well. He stood there, glancing over his shoulder on either side before turning his gaze to his vampire friend. He noticed the weapon in hand, and the witch followed suit, dropping his shoulders as he relaxed to get ready for anything that might happen. From the way Finn was handling the situation, it was clear this was not an everyday experience. At the vampires request, Finn spun on the balls of his feet, turning back the way they came, but stopped dead in his tracks seeing the creature that stood down the hall.

Finn didn't hesitate to unload the bullets into the creature, sending it running off, but the witch definitely did. He froze there, any trace of his readiness, if it could even be called that, vanished. His eyes locked with that of the wolf and lingered thereafter even as it was chased away. He was frozen. Frozen with rage. Frozen with fear. Frozen with utter disgust. He could feel his stomach turn at the sight of it; feel his fist clench together as his knuckles turned white. Along his back, his scars suddenly flared to life, icy-hot sensations running up and down his back like knives, tracing over the claw marks that brought him back to that forest so many years ago.
How could he not realize what tonight was? He had been so careless.

Finnigan gritted his teeth, snapping out of his daze, but not his anger. His eyes flick back to Finn, following his gaze behind him to the wolves now standing there. And then, quite suddenly, Finnigan reacted. He bound forward towards the wolves, anger taking over reason.
He jumped into the air, twisting rapidly as he did so, and landed softly on his feet, punching out his fists down the hall and towards the wolves.

A strong wind whipped down the hallway, the whistling of which echoed down into other tunnels. The gust caused his hair and clothing to whip about him as he held his stance. The steady stream of wind barreling towards the beasts. The wind hit them like a wall, sending any who weren't barred for attack off there feet and rolling down the hall. The ones who were needed to dig their claws in the ground to hold them steady as fur violently rustled around them.

This was the first time that he’d seen his witch friend show off his powers and he was impressed. Finn regularly forgot about witches being out there because they blended in so well with the humans. Until you saw their magic, they could easily hide behind their humanity. There was always something a little off about them though and you could never really place it until you saw it.

The magic being shown off gave him a chance to reload his pistol with his only backup clip. For all it was worth. Sometimes it could give him a few spare seconds and that was enough for him. Waiting until the wind was over, he stepped forward and released the last clip into those that were still holding on. It kept them back for the moment but he knew that was about all he could do now.

”We should be running now” he reminded Finn, turning to run down the tunnel. After a few seconds, he passed an alarm on the wall, pausing to smash the glass and hit the button within. Red lights began to spin down the tunnels as a distant alarm rung out. Back at the main compound, the main alarm was going off, signally the guards that there was trouble in the tunnels.

Finn knew he could probably outrun these wolves. His biggest concern was being locked down here with them should the guards see what was down here. He didn’t slow to keep track of the other Finn as he could hear the claws echoing down the tunnel behind him, getting closer and closer with each stride. He certainly didn’t fancy being eaten so close to making it out.

The anger and rage within Finnigan cause his blood to boil, shattering the calm and friendly façade that he had masked so well. He held his ground, letting the wind continue to barrel down the hall as the vampire fires another round into the beast, sending them off. Once gone, Finn drops his magic and stands up straight. He pants, not from exhaustion, but from trying to keep his cool.
"Son of a bitch! Fucking wolves?!" he snaps, to no one in particular. He punches his fist out against a wall, only really damaging himself against the thick concrete. He doesn't care though.

Shaking his head, he follows the vampires lead, following him down the hall as the flashing red lights illuminate the path, the echoing sounds of the alarm bouncing off the wall. It was impossible to tell how many wolves were down here with them or where they were all coming from. It didn't really matter though. Finn just wanted to get out of here. And he wanted these weres dead.

The witch kept up with his vampire friend, as best he could anyway, as the two rushed back towards safety. There was some distance between the two, however. As they run, the witch passes an adjacent hall and turns his head as he hears an aggressive snarl. The beast leaps towards Finn, it's maw open wide.
Finnigan spins on his feet, barely dodging the mouth of the wolf, though its front paws land on his chest, forcing the witch to the ground with a thud. "FINN!!" he yells as the claws on the wolf dig into his chest.

The witch attempts at attacking the wolf, throwing punches and kicks to knock it off, but it was hard to focus while trying to avoid the hungry mouth.

Reaching the exit, his hope was quickly turned to fear as he heard his guest scream his name. Turning, he saw the witch under a wolf with more incoming from behind. Finn almost jumped out of his skin when he felt a hand on his shoulder. With a sharp turn, he looked into the eyes of one of his best men, a hulk of a man and one of the more notorious guards on the property. A glorious sight to behold.

Telling Finn to remain where he was, the giant man tore down the hallway, silver greatsword in hand. This guy was old school and Finn felt like old school would be victorious here. The sword found itself being plunged into the skull of the attacking wolf and the guard lifted the dead wolf up with the sword, tossing its corpse to one side with ease, causing the approaching wolves to slide to a halt in fear.

As the guard taunted them with a battle cry, he turned to look at the witch, telling him he was safe now. That was when the blood hit the witch. The brick and guts coming down beside him as the guard was torn to shreds by the largest wolf Finn had ever seen. Even in its starved form, it looked like something straight out of Hell. Turning to look at the witch below him, Finn was sure he was about to lose another friend.

Running towards the witch as fast as he could, he feared for the worst. There hadn’t been an attack on a vampire property in years, maybe even a decade or more now. The recent land grab by the two most powerful packs was most likely the cause for all this mayhem. Wild wolves were now a plague on the state and to this day, he had only thought them few in number. Today he had been proven wrong.

Blood splatters across the pavement beside Finn as a thick, silver sword is thrust through the wolf on top of the witch. He pants slightly, the warm blood running down to the hilt and dripping as the beast is thrown to the side. Finnigan pushes himself into a sitting position, looking up at the guard with a relieved look. He was there for a second, a single second before everything changed. He didn't even have time to reply as the world around them frozen in place. His breathing stopped; the guards yell silent; the blood run still. Everything frozen in that mere second. And had he known what was going to happen next, Finn's only wish would be to stay in that second eternally.

In the next moment, the guard is torn to shreds. His greatsword falls with a distinctive clang as the mammoth of a beast barrels through him. Finn reacts quickly as blood is splatter across his face and body. He rolls back, throwing himself over his shoulder as he springs himself up to standing. The wolf is faster, however.
His large paw swats down at the witch, stopping his momentum midair and slamming him back onto the ground. His vision turns white as his back and head slam onto the ground.

He looks up with terror at the beast. Thick drool dripping out of his mouth onto its prey beneath him. "Get off!" he pleads to the beast. Desperate, the witch twists his hands, muttering something under his breath as he begins to pull the air from the werewolf's lungs, hoping to free himself.

It was a valiant attempt, and if there was enough distance between them, it might have worked. The wolf didn't wait for Finn to finish. It lunged forward, snapping its mouth shut around his collar and shoulder. The witch's eyes go wide, and there's a distinctive loud snapping of his collarbone before Finn's cries echo down the hall.
